Canada Occupation List 2002/2003/2004
Canada Immigration Changes via Bill C-11
New Point Qualification for Canada
Canada Skilled Migration Points Assessment

CANADA OLD OCCUPATION LIST

As per law changes under the Bill C-11, which technically went into effect on January 1st, 2002. Here are the New Rules:

Qualified Occupation / Work experience

To determine if your occupation is a qualified occupation and to calculate your points, you must first find your work experience on the National Occupational Classification (NOC). The New List of Open occupations can be found at can_occ2002.htm. You must have at least one year’s full-time or full-time equivalent work experience in an occupation listed in Skill Type O (management occupations) or Skill Levels A or B in the past 10 years to score points for this factor.

Once you reach the NOC Web site, scroll down the page and click on the “NOC Search Engine” link. Next, type the occupation in which you have experience into the “New Search” field. Your occupation will appear in the “Results” box, along with a four-digit number. If the first digit is 0, you have experience in Skill Type O. If the second digit is 1, 2 or 3, your work experience is in Skill Level A or B. If you have experience in more than one occupation, you may repeat the search for each occupation.

If you do not have access to the Internet, you can find the NOC at any Canadian visa office.

Once you have determined that you have the required work experience, you can estimate your points. Give yourself 10 points for one year’s experience and five points for each additional year to a maximum of 25 points.

Years of experience 1 2 3 4+
Points 15 17 19 21

If your work experience is not listed in Skill Type O or Skill Levels A or B of the NOC, or if your experience did not occur in the past 10 years, your application will be refused.

The one advantage is that, occupations like Executive Assistants (NOC: 1222.0) , which based on the old law, would only score max of 8 points in occupations, now will score at least 15 and may get up to full 21 points, if they have 4 years of experience or higher.
Also other occupations which were closed earlier are now open, example: Lawyers (4112) or Doctors (3112), or Tailors  (7342.1).  So there is some good news under the new law.

We still enclose the old list below, as that has a list of names for the occupations. (Again, as per the new law some of these occupations are now Closed, to see the new list, check can_occ2002.htm)

Following is the Old List of Open Occupations in the Skilled / Independent Migration Category. (Occupation Factor and ETF are NO LONGER Valid for Canada, see above for calculating points for work experience).  It is a Guide List of Occupations for USA.

If you need the Australian Skills Occupation List click on the hyperlink. Again this list is only for CANADA.
(*Very Long List, It will take up to 2 minutes to download)

OLD General Occupations List (Valid until July 28, 2002)
